Previously I have been writing about how to increase your income with having other projects other than just your blog. Obviously not everyone knows HTML or knows how to build a website. So I’ve got some help for those of you that don’t know how to build a site.

19pages

This is a very simple script that lets build a site with up 19pages (as the name suggests!) . An example of a 19pages.com site is here my free directory list. One of the main advantages of this script is the fact that it doesn’t need a MySQL database, so if you are limited to the number of SQL databases on your host, this is of great advantage. You will need a modern day server that runs PHP 5 and can use .htaccess files (ask you host if you are unsure).

Joomla

This script is a lot more complex that 19 pages and can be used to make a great website. There are lots of templates available for this script. The script is free and you can find free templates as well as paid templates quite easily with a search on google. I have used this script before and found it ok, it can be quite tricky to get the hand of but I sure if you work on it you will soon get the hang of it. (This script does need a MySQL database)

Wordpress

Yes! Wordpress as a static content site! Heres a great post on how to make wordpress into a static content site.

Yes I am aware there are more scripts out there to be used to make websites easily but if I was to list them all I might be here a while! Good luck with trying out a new site, and remember! Experiment!

Hey Marc, great list, I recently started playing with Joomla, it’s something, the learning curve is ok, but damn there are so many things you can add, extensions, modules, mambots. I use it to power an online store for my band (Joomla and the VirtueMart extension) really a well-designed platform
    :)

yeah theres loads of stuff you can do with it. I’ve only had a bit of a play with it before and found it tricky but i’m sure after using it a while it would be easy to pickup. Thanks foryour comment Jon. Always a pleasure :)
