Looking at google analytics it shows that most of the readers of marceilbeck.com use above 800*600 resolution which is what the blog was previously set at. Only 15% of my readers use 800*600. The other 85% use above this. So be increasing the blog resolution to 1024 I hope I will be increasing the reading experience for the majority of readers.
Things to consider when moving to a different resolution:
What resolution do my readers use?
Just because only 15% of my readers use 800*600 doesn’t mean that 15% of your readers will use 800*600. A technology blog would have a lot smaller percentage of users using 800*600 than say a knitting blog, which may have a large amount of users using 800*600. This is why I would recommend using google analytics to find out about your readers before changing your blog resolution.
Header
You have your 800*600 header done, but when you switch to 1024*768 you wont have a header ready. You can just image re-size on photoshop but my guess is it won’t look right if you do that as it didn’t for me. I actually outsourced(paid someone else to do it for me) the new header for a small price and got a nice looking header pretty quick.
Sidebars
Increasing the resolution gives you the option of a second sidebar. This was my original plan to do this but when I actually came to do this I didn’t like the look of it and decided to keep to the one sidebar. This gives a larger space for the content and a more pleasant reading experience.
