Setting up a new wordpress eBay affiliate site today and spent some time setting it up, but the key thing I forgot to do was to what?? Guess……….
Change the Permalink structure! So I’m there getting the different ebay category codes and making the posts then checking each post making sure its the right product I want to get up and I do about 10 pages! Then I realise I have forgot to change the permalinks……. *sigh*! So I tried to change to the %postname% permalink stucture and guess what? 404 error on all the old posts and also on the new posts that I created after the permalink change!
oh goodie! Tried looking round the net on how to fix this but in the end I couldnt be arsed, so I just deleted and started again!
So Marc Eilbeck’s tip when creating a new wordpress based site is to update your permalinks as the first thing you do!
UPDATE: I found the problem with the permalinks was I needed to change the structure to index.php/%postname%/ for some reason it wouldnt take just being /%postname%/
