After the longest wait for Google PageRank to happen, it looks like its finally starting… how do I know this? JohnChow.com has gone from PR6 to PR5 why would Google do this? John Chow must be getting inbound links coming in on a daily basis because everyone writes about him. So why would Google decrease the Chows page rank? Well we know that Google obviously doesn’t like Chow because they not long ago bitch slapped him for doing his ‘review me for a backlink’ campaign. He was at #1 spot for ‘make money online’ in Google and now I think he’s on page 6-7, he doesn’t even rank on page 1 for his own name…. how ridiculous…
My question is.. Is Google being fair? In my eyes there was no reason John Chow’s Page Rank should go down to PR5 it seems to me that Google is being unfair…
Google’s open directory project aka dmoz is known for being corrupt you just have to read shoemoney’s post here about the editor of dmoz demanded $5k or he would remove Shoemoney’s site…
What do you guys think about this? Is this fair what Google has done to John Chow?

Do you really think Google is out to get John Chow? Billions of web pages in their database and they are going to single out one guy’s page and change their results just for him? I don’t think so.
If Chow’s page is ranked lower it’s because Google has changed their page rank algorithm or the nature of the links to Chow’s site have changed.
I’ve read a lot of post recently like: “Google hates me” or “Google did such and such to my site”. Google results and ranks are the result of some convoluted algorithms. They are not personal assessments of a site or attacks on individuals.

ok don so how do you explain going from #1 for the term ‘make money online’ to like page 6 - 7 ? and not being #1 for his own name ? google has fucked him over…

If Google applied a manual penalty to John’s site, then there’s cause for a riot. And clearly, johnchow.com is under a penalty.
But so far, I haven’t seen anything that proves the penalty was manual. If its algorithmic, then its just a matter of cleaning up some of John’s dodgy links and submitting a reinclusion request.

Yeah i think it is difficult to find out if it was manual or not… so were just going to have to guess…

The adult in me says it is algorithmic.

i too was punished by google.. from PR-4 to PR-0..Whether John Chow loses his page rank or not it doesn’t matter, his got an established, branded name. It doesnt really affect him that much. He will still get visitors even if he loses his PR. I am more bothered with the $5K to avoid site deletion. ..I think i have to read the exact story….why would DMOZ charge shoemoney that amount…
