When I first bought the phpBay plugin I thought it would be interesting to test different markets and see what converts the best. I went for large vs smallish price range and UK vs US. As I initially expected but wanted to see anyway the thing that converted best was the smaller price range, as I like to call them impulse buys.
Now for the second test it was UK vs US and I know I didn’t do it correctly due to the fact that the US site was hosted on a UK host but that is something for me to test at a later stage. Both sites were for the same product and were on the same site design, but for some reason the UK site seemed to convert a lot more.
The US site got more click but less commissions were coming in. Now to me this is strange and I cant really explain why this is.. maybe there are a lot more eBay niche stores around in the US and people are getting wise to them? I don’t know thats just a guess!
Has anyone else tried this ? What are you results? Does anyone have an explanation for it ?

Hi,
I have seen something similar myself with plenty of US clicks but no conversions. That said, my UK conversions are not exactly impressive either so perhaps my results are more balanced.
You were getting the clicks so I doubt it was down to the design since they were reaching eBay. Does the product you chose have an equal standing in both countries? Some things are more geared towards certain places.
The only other thing I can think of is that because of differing economic states between the two countries, the UK perhaps has more disposable income for the “impulse buys”?
Just some thoughts but I would love to figure this out since I am planning to start some niche stores of my own very soon.

Hi Mark, nice to see a fellow UKer commenting!
Yeah I think the product does have equal standing between the two. Not sure if the UK does have more disposable income or not, I’m not too hot with economics really, but maybe this is a reason why. Its a question confusing me.
Btw Mark I checked out your blog and Ive subscribed
