Last week I did 6 tips when starting a new blog but I didn’t include how to find readers for your blog…

So you’ve got your blog online and you written a few articles, next is the hard bit.. getting people to read your blog. I’ve put together 7 tips in order to get more readers on your blogs. Remember there is no quick fix to get readers, it takes time, so be patient when doing your blog promotion.

1. Good relevant content

keep your content relevant and useful to the reader. Have original content don’t just copy and paste off someone else’s blog.

2. Link to other blogs

Don’t link to any old blog, link to good quality posts that will be informative to your reader. By doing this you will get the attention of the other blog writer as they can see incoming links from technorati, this will incentivize them to visit your blog. An easy way to link to other blogs is to do a speedlinking post or if you have a list of blogs you visit regular you could put them in your blogroll and visit them through your blogroll so when the blog owners check their incoming link stats they will see a link from your site!

3. Comment on other blogs

As most people know when you post a comment it leaves your blog URL as your name. If you are interacting in conversation with other people they will want to check out your blog and so will the blog writer. This is also a good way to make some good contacts/friends.

4. Interact with your readers

if someone comments on your blog write a comment back and try and engage in some conversation.

5. Update you blog frequently

If you update your blog on a regular basis people will visit your blog more often. My goal is to do at least 1 post per day I know sometimes I don’t because it is difficult as everyone has a real life. If that is the case though take your camera out with you and do some shots of what you have been doing. This works for big bloggers like John Chow. You’ll also find that the Search Engine bots will come visiting more often if your site is constantly changing.

6. Add you URL to your email signature

I’ve recently done this, and I’m not sure how effective this is, I suppose it depends on how may emails you send. I do know this is free and doesn’t take 2 seconds to set up so its definitely worth doing.

7. Post your content to social bookmark sites

Sign up to some social bookmarks and post your content on them. Some of the good ones are Reddit, StumbleUpon and Digg. Of course using these sites does not guarantee readers or even traffic but they can HELP with traffic and some of that traffic can potentially turn into readers.
